JEFFERSON CITY -- The holiday celebrations continued Friday in the Capital City.

Thursday night a crowd gathered as city leaders and citizens gathered to light the tree on Bolivar Street.

And Friday morning the holiday spirit continued as Gov. Jay Nixon and First Lady Georgeann Nixon, along with some local elementary students, decorated a Christmas tree outside the governor's office in the capitol building.

Friday evening the festivities will continue as the Nixon's preside over a tree lighting ceremony at the governor's mansion, followed by candlelight tours inside the mansion.

"We now have a wide variety of traditional ornaments and natural greenery and wreaths to decorate the home so this evening we will be opening the doors and like to invite everyone to come join us,” said Mrs. Nixon.

Candlelight tours will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Prior to the tours on Friday, the Nixons will welcome visitors to the mansion grounds for the lighting of the mansion and an outdoor Christmas tree. Music for that program will begin at 6 p.m.

Another Jefferson City tradition for almost 20 years continues Friday as well, with the living windows taking place downtown from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Storefronts and windows come alive with dancers, singers, religious and holiday themes. Hayrides wind their way through the streets and Santa Claus makes his yearly visit to Hawthorn Bank.

Sunday night patients and staff at St. Mary's Health Center were treated to a special holiday event.

The Angel Procession, a group of local kids including St. Mary's employees' children and grandchildren, were decked out in robes, wings, and halos to spread Christmas cheer through the hospital.
