JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri lawmaker wants to criminalize devices that alter urine samples to fool drug tests.
Various products promise to help people pass drug and alcohol screenings. Some use chemical additives to mask the drugs in urine and others swap the sample. Among the most popular is the Whizzinator, which connects a male prosthetic to a container holding dehydrated urine warmed to body temperate with heat packs.
Missouri House member Jeff Roorda, a Democrat from Barnhart, has filed legislation to make forging urine and other body fluid samples a felony. Possessing the devices to fool the tests would be a misdemeanor. Roorda, a former police officer, says there is no legitimate use for them.
Several states in recent years have considered bans.
