As the shopping mayhem is underway, local law enforcement reminds both shoppers and store retailers to watch out for those counterfeit bills.

The Jefferson City Police Department says they see lots of cases where fake bills are being passed during the holiday season.

Store employees are warned by their managers, many stores use special markers that react a certain way to tell of the bill is real or fake.

Police remind that the public that they can help snooping out fake bills.

If you come across a fake bill:
-don't return it, contact police.
-remember any information you can about who the passer was.
-write your initials and the date in the white border area of the suspect currency.
-put it in an envelope, or other protective covering.

You can also check out the U.S. Secret Service's Web site, for more information on how to spot counterfeit cash.
