SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — With one ex-Illinois governor in prison and another accused of corruption, the state Senate has decided to let voters chose whether they want the power to recall crooked governors in the future.

The Senate's vote on Thursday means a constitutional amendment will be on the November 2010 ballot.

If voters approve the amendment, 30 lawmakers must give their approval to start the process. Then hundreds of thousands of signatures would be needed. Finally, a statewide election could be held to decide the governor's fate.

Ex-governor Rod Blagojevich (blah-GOY'-uh-vich) is accused of trying to sell President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.

Another ex-governor, George Ryan, is in federal prison after being convicted of corruption.
