JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Talks on new contracts for more than 7,000 Missouri state workers are getting under way.
The negotiations are the first between the state and unions for the employees since Gov. Jay Nixon took office in January.
The union is proposing a 6 percent annual pay raise for the next three years and a fee for nonunion members who are covered by union-negotiated contracts.
A contract for patient care support workers expired in June, and a contract covering craft and maintenance employees expired in December.
A rally at the Capitol on Tuesday drew about 100 people calling for better working conditions for the state employees.
