JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- A report on Missouri traffic stops shows black motorists remain more likely than white motorists to be pulled over by police.
The annual report released Monday by Attorney General Chris Koster found that black drivers were 67 percent more likely than white or Hispanic drivers to be stopped in 2008.
That's roughly the same percentage as the previous year.
Koster describes the findings as a disturbing trend and a significant concern.
Missouri law enforcement agencies are required to report demographics about traffic stops under a 2000 law. The reports have consistently shown that black motorists are stopped at a rate higher than their percentage of Missouri's population.
Although stopped at the same rate as white drivers, Hispanic drivers were twice as likely to be searched last year.
