Senator Ted Stevens, convicted in Washington in October on seven felony counts, told reporters he was ready to fight an effort to oust him from the Republican conference and strip his committee assignments. But at Tuesday's Republican conference meeting, leaders decided to await final results of the election between Stevens and Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich. Senator Stevens seemed eager to defend himself, but South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint says he has the votes to oust Stevens and he says he'll push for a vote to do so on Thursday.
