COLUMBIA (AP) -- Stephens College president Wendy Libby is leaving the school to become the first female president of Stetson University in Florida.

Libby has been president of the 175-year-old women's college for more than five years. She is credited with reducing a multimillion dollar deficit and increasing undergraduate enrollment by 72 percent. The Stetson board of trustees approved Libby's hiring last week, with most of the faculty and staff at Stephens learning the news Thursday. Stetson, a private school founded in 1883 as Florida's first university, is located in DeLand, about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach.
