JEFFERSON CITY -- More Information Technology, or IT jobs, have been posted online in the last year and a half than any other field.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that as computers affect our lives more and more, that someone has to keep everything humming along smoothly.

That's what information technology professionals do.

Although the field is very broad, it's focused on computers, and how information is shared electronically and kept secure.

"I take care of all of the Information Technology needs here at channel 13.” says Steve Warfield, IT Specialist, KRCG-TV.

Warfield says that even thought there are 2 computers for every one person at KRCG, the job isn't just about the computers.

I find you have to decide that you want to work on computers but you also have to service the people that use the computers,” Warfield said. “They know how to use the computer but they don't know what to do when a computer doesn't do right and that's when the IT guy steps in.”

Job sites are full of IT jobs, in fact, according to Beyond.com's Career Trend Analysis, almost 13% of all jobs posted online are in the Information Technology field.

"
I see this being the job market of the future,” said John Truesdell of Rose International, which provides IT services to companies worldwide.

Truesdell says demand is rising.

We're simply not educating enough new talent to supply the demand that we have here today,” Truesdell said.

Even in a down economy, Truesdell believes the demand will still be there.

I think you're going to see businesses wanting to turn to technology a little bit more to try to ease the sharpness of that bite,” said Truesdell.

According to Truesdell, $50,000 a year plus benefits is not uncommon for those starting out in the IT field.

The need for IT professionals at Rose International, the State of Missouri, Lincoln University and other employers led to formation of the Jefferson City Information Technology Coalition.
