Members of Columbia’s Woodcrest Chapel plan to remember Tom Clements during their weekend services Saturday and Sunday.

Clements was the Colorado Department of Corrections Director who was mysteriously murdered at his home Tuesday night. He lived in Columbia’s Highlands Subdivision and worked at the Department of Corrections in Jefferson City for more than 30 years.

The slain Colorado corrections official was heavily involved with Columbia’s Woodcrest Chapel. He even started the church’s bike club several years ago.

Woodcrest Chapel administrators said Clement’s murder has been the main topic of discussion at their church.

Woodcrest Senior Pastor Pieter van Waarde said, “It’s one of those things were you think this is always going to happen to somebody else. It’s not going to happen in your relational world. When you do experience it, you don’t know what to say because in the middle of it you’re grieving yourself.”

Tom Clements and his wife Lisa were members of Columbia’s Woodcrest congregation for more than 15 years before they left for Colorado.

Some Woodcrest members plan to travel to Colorado for Clement’s funeral.
