The departure of Mizzou football coach David Yost is on the minds of thousands of Mizzou students this week.
Many of them told us that they are convinced that Yost was fired and that he did not leave on his own accord.
Mizzou students are concerned about the future of their football program with the loss of this veteran coach.
Students I talked with said the resignation of Yost was due to a lot of factors. Most of them said the main reason was Missouri’s move to the SEC.
MU junior Joe Larsen said, “I don’t think it will have too big of an impact. We are not really messing with our playbook much at all or anything like that. I don’t see it being a huge factor.”
MU junior James Lee, “I think it’s unfortunate. I think he’s a good offensive coordinator. He’s had some good quarterbacks running through his reign. I think it’s going to be a tough adjustment.”
MU junior Christopher Lutsch said, “I think it’s too bad that it happened, but it’s just going to have to take some time to get used to. The players are going to have to adjust. I think overall, we are going to come out ahead.”
Some members of Mizzou’s Delta Tau Delta fraternity said they will miss Yost’s recruiting skills.
Delta Tau Delta member David Vaughn said, “He was the real big family guy that made Mizzou appealing to a lot of the recruits. He was always there with younger kids after practices and things like that.”
Delta Tau Delta member Charlie Landis said, “I think I saw it coming. With the original switch to the SEC, a lot of the Mizzou fans thought we were going to have a season a lot like Texas A&M just had. When that didn’t happen, it was pretty clear we needed a new offensive coordinator.”
Delta Tau Delta member Josh Smith said, “I’m ready for a new offensive coordinator. He’s been around for quite a while. He helped land a couple of big recruits over the years.”
Three of Yost’s former quarterbacks are playing in the NFL. Students hope the next offensive coordinator is even more successful as the Tigers adapt to the SEC.
