The city of Columbia is once again revamping efforts to beautify the area by putting on the 16th annual 'Clean Up Columbia' trash pickup.

City officials said that close to 1,900 people have registered to volunteer to help clean up the areas that need it the most.

People have been picking up their supplies for clean-up since Wednesday, although Leigh Britt, a Clean Up Columbia coordinator, said many might not start until after the weather clears up.

"The weather has not been cooperative with us today, and so we expect that many volunteers may choose to pick up trash another day, but that's still in the spirit of the event, and we still appreciate their volunteerism even if they pick up trash another day in the future."

The rain didn't dampen the volunteers' spirits though, as many came to pick up their supplies on Saturday.
