JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Auditor Susan Montee is beginning the general election campaign with a sizable cash advantage over her Republican challenger.
The Democratic incumbent reported Thursday that she had about $557,000 in her campaign account as of the end of last week.
A spokesman for Republican nominee Tom Schweich said he had about $44,000 in his campaign account as of last week. Schweich spent much of the money he raised to defeat Allen Icet (EYE'-set) in the Aug. 3 Republican primary.
Montee was able to hold on to much of her money, because she did not face a formidable challenge in the Democratic primary.
