Police are continuing to investigate a double homicide in Morgan County.

Around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, a neighbor went to check on an elderly couple in their Oak Hill Road home in the Ivy Bend area. Upon entering the home the neighbor found Mable Irene Wells, 71, lying in a pool of blood.

When Morgan County deputies arrived on the scene and checked the home they found Wayne Wells, 82, in another room. Both people appeared to have been shot multiple times.

An autopsy is sceduled for 11:00 a.m. this morning.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call 573-378-5481.

In another incident around 5:00 p.m. about one mile from the homicides, a man reported a handgun missing from his home. While deputies were talking to him, a neighbor was outside yelling and had a knife.

He had stabbed himself and after a standoff officers arrested him. He was taken to University Hospital in Columbia with non-life-threatening injuries.
