He shot a man three times, assaulted another and robbed a home

A Columbia man was arrested after a full day of crime.

Right after midnight Thursday, a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound was dropped off at University Hospital. After immediate surgery, he told detectives that 29-year-old Justin Campbell had shot him three times after getting into an argument at the victim's home.

Later, at about 10:45 that morning, officers responded to an attempted armed robbery in the 1800 block of Gordon Street. They discovered that Campbell had gone to the 54-year-old victim's home the night before, but returned Thursday. The two talked inside the home until Campbell became angry, at which point he pulled out a handgun and demanded money. Campbell hit the man at least twice in the head with the butt of the gun, leaving two cuts, after the victim said he didn't have any money.

Just after 1 p.m., Boone County Sheriff's deputies went to the 3000 block of S. Old Ridge Road for a robbery. Campbell was again identified as the suspect. Two women reported that a gunman forced his way into the residence, demanding cash and other valuables. He bound both women before leaving with cash, a laptop and an iPad.

Fulton Police arrested Campbell after stopping a vehicle in which he was a passenger. Officers found a handgun – three rounds short of full capacity – lying on the floorboard of the car. Detectives also recovered several other pieces of evidence linking Campbell to crimes within the city and county.

The woman driving the car admitted to driving Campbell around all day.

Campbell was arrested for assault in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, all with to-be-set bonds, as well as second degree assault with a $4,500 bond. He is currently in the Boone County Jail.
