(AP) -- NEVADA, Mo. (AP) -- One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a tractor-trailer plowed into a southwest Missouri highway diner and struck several patrons.

The Kansas City Star reports the accident happened just before 5 p.m. Friday in Nevada, Mo., about 95 miles south of Kansas City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the driver of a car pulled away from a stop sign and into the path of the truck, which was southbound on U.S. 71. The truck driver struck the car and then ran into the Quick Dine Restaurant.

The Patrol says 54-year-old Joseph Cole of Nevada was pronounced dead at the scene. At least three other customers were injured.
