JEFFERSON CITY -- It's a bacteria that the Centers for Disease Control calls a "nightmare", and a patient in Jefferson City tested positive for it. The bacteria is called CRE, short for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, and it is resistant to antibiotics. 

Officials at St. Mary's Hospital officials say the patient tested positive last month but, is now fine and has been released from the hospital.

According the CDC, while the numbers of cases are small, CRE is frightening because, according to one study, the bacteria kills half of the people who become infected.
