Starting Friday, the Jefferson City Fire Department's interim fire chief will be Jason Turner, division chief of prevention and public information officer for the department.

"Jason is a natural fit as interim fire chief due to his 16 years of service in Jefferson City fire administration," said City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus. "I have every confidence he will serve the city well in this position."

Turner has 16 years of experience with the city's fire administration and has earned many fire safety and emergency training certifications. He is also an adjunct instructor for the University of Missouri Fire Training and for the Ameren UE Callaway Plant.

He was also a board member of the Firefighters Association of Missouri and the Fire Marshals Association of Missouri.

Former Chief Bob Rennick announced his intention to retire at the beginning of the year.
