JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- The Attorney General's office has launched an investigation into allegations that Elmo Green intentionally pocketed money meant to fund softball tournaments.

Joe Bindbeutel, chief of the consumer protection division at the attorney general's office, says the investigation is still in the information-gathering stage.

"Until we round up all of those teams and assess how much money is still owed, if more money is still owed...we can't really move forward," he said.

It also has to be determined whether or not Green knowingly and intentionally took money from the teams.

"Was this an enterprise that just had a problem keeping up with it's obligations? Or was this any sort of intentional conduct," Bindbeutel said.

Bindbeutel said the amount of people affected and how spread out they are makes it difficult to proceed in the investigation. He's asking anyone who claims to have lost money to Green to call the attorney general hotline at 800-392-8222.

Green was not home when KRCG 13 stopped by Monday afternoon, but when speaking with him on the phone he said all comments would have to be made through his attorney.

Green's wife said the attorney is currently out of town, and a call to the attorney went unanswered.
