Deputies were called back just after 5 p.m. for another fight
A man shot another in the stomach during an argument over a girl Thursday afternoon. Authorities said a physical fight over the girl had heated up, leading to the shooting.
Another unidentified subject got into a car to leave the area when a female tried to stop him. He continued to speed away, dragging the female. That man was taken into custody for second-degree assault.
The shooter has also been taken into custody for first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Authorities said two shots were fired -- one a miss and the other that hit the man in the stomach.
The injured man drove himself to St. Mary's Health Center. Once there, he was stabilized before being flown by helicopter to University Hospital.
Authorities went to 5202 Collier Court at about 2:20 p.m. During their investigation, they searched an unoccupied apartment and found three weapons, one of which was "confirmed."
Authorities have not released anyone's names or ages. The two in custody were taken to the Cole County Sheriff's Department for booking and processing.
Deputies were called back to Collier Court for another fight at about 5:15 p.m. They then blocked off the street.
A group of about six to ten people were seen running into an apartment, apparently upset with someone over the earlier incident.
