HOLTS SUMMIT -- Holts Summit Police responded to a report of an attempted child abduction Thursday afternoon. The attempt occured in the 300 block of North Summit Drive.

The 5-year-old boy's mother said she knew something was wrong when he arrived home from school.

The mother, Dawn, said her husband met the boy about halfway from their home and the bus stop. The boy was apparently reluctant to get into the vehicle with his father.

When they returned home, the boy ran to his bedroom.

Dawn said her son would not tell her what was bothering him, but finally broke down. He told her that a man in a green Honda Civic tried to lure him into taking a ride with him.

He added that when he told the man no, the unknown person again asked him to get in the car so that "they could go for a ride."

After police investigated the incident and talked to witnesses, they determined there was no contact between a person in a vehicle and the child, so the case was closed.

The police department recieved numerous inquiries on Facebook and responded by saying,"We will not use social media as a means to conduct an investigation. If anyone in the public feels they have credible information that will assist in this investigation, they are encouraged to contact the police department."

The Holts Summit Police Department said they would like to use this opportunity to remind everyone to contact law enforcement to report any suspicious activity.
