MOBERLY --

New sidewalks are in the works for the city of Moberly.

In a news release, officials with MoDOT said the city will get $274,200 in federal transportation enhancement funds for the McKinsey Street Sidewalk Improvements Project.

They said it is one of six funded projects through the federal enhancement program that provided a little over $1.4 million in dedicated funds to MoDOT's Northeast District.

Projects including the construction of sidewalks, trails and bike lanes, streetscaping, ADA improvement to existing sidewalks and other local projects that enhance transportation compete for these funds through an application process.

The McKinsey Street Sidewalk Improvements Project involves the installation of ADA compliant sidewalks and trails linking the school complex to Rothwell Park.

The improvements will provide an off-street connection to the existing trails at the intersections of Williams and McKinsey Street, and Gratz Brown and McKinsey Street.

"These improvements will provide bicyclists and pedestrians safe off-street access to Rothwell Park Trail including school complexes, the YMCA and the Central Christian Bible College," said Ron Watts, MoDOT district design liaison.

"The transportation enhancement program has made many improvements possible that wouldn't have otherwise been funded," Watts added.

The City of Moberly will be sharing in a percentage of the project cost.
