COLE COUNTY --

A Lake Ozark woman was killed Monday morning in a car crash in Cole County.

Just before 10 a.m., 20-year-old Leah Schauf was driving on Highway 54, less than half a mile south of Route CC when her Toyota Yaris went off the left side of the highway.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers said Schauf's car hit an embankment, went airborne and collided with the northern bank of the Moreau River. The woman's car eventually came to a rest in the creek bed.

Schauf was first taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital and then airlifted to University Hospital.

She was pronounced dead just before 12:30 p.m.
