A teenage girl is in a Columbia hospital tonight after accidently falling more than 30 feet off a cliff.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. near the Devil’s Ice Box at Rock Bridge State Park.

Boone County firefighters secured the 16-year-old girl on a stretcher.

Authorities transported the girl by helicopter to University Hospital.

The victim was in and out of consciousness during her rescue.

Witnesses said the girl was hiking too close to a cliff when she slipped on some leaves.

Boone County Fire District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said, “We caution people that whenever they are walking around cliffs or edges, be cautious of those leaves.  We’ve had many falls here at Rock Bridge State Park because of that same circumstance.”

The girl’s name has not been released.

Her condition is unknown.
