BOONVILLE, Mo. – A historical landmark in Boonville is now educating hungry minds again, and they're looking to draw more students from around that area.

Since September, the old Kemper Military Academy building has been home to a State Fair Community College satellite campus.

T
uesday, they and the city of Boonville awared Jim Gann with the University of Missouri's Economic Development Association for helping create the vision for and facilitate the school's move into the building.

"That sense of place is very important here,” said Gann. “So how do you mix a sense of place, or a sense of historic place with access to education of all types, and that's really what was driving this project."

State Fair plans to have roughly 130 students enrolled there by the end of the Spring semester.

The college also shares Kemper with the Boonslick Heartland YMCA, which has been there since 2003, when the City of Boonville purchased the grounds.
