A wreck on Highway 52 in February cost three people their lives.

On Wednesday, the person Highway Patrol deemed responsible faced sentencing.

For Emily Frakes, it was a somber reminder of just how fragile life is, especially after surviving that crash.

"I was just driving to work, just like I do everyday," Frakes said.

But for Mary Robinson, the mother of one of the deceased, the reminder has come too late.

"We'll miss him greatly, and we'll miss Elisa," she said. "She's the best thing that ever happened to my son. And we miss 'Monkey'...He was the cutest little thing you'd ever want to see."

In Miller County Court on Wednesday, Frakes was sentenced to one-year confinement in jail. However, that was immediately suspended. Instead, she will serve a two-year probation for failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, resulting in an accident.

During those two years, Frakes will undergo 100 hours of community service, plus a three-day shock period during Christmas, where she will have no contact with her family.

Robinson says this part was a fitting sentence, especially since her son was a Christmas baby.

"He was born on the 26th of December, and he was making something of his life, and he's got five kids that don't have a father anymore," she said.

Distracted driving was investigated, but there were no charges.

Even after all is said and done with the sentencing, Robinson says that what happened needs to serve as a life-long reminder.

"I hope Emily remembers my son's name for the rest of her life, and never forgets it," she said.

The Frakes family said they are extremely remorseful towards the Wilcox family and that nobody won in this situation - everyone lost someone or something.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed against Frakes by Robinson in April is still ongoing.
