Updated, 12:35 p.m.:

A trespasser brought officers to 3716 Rollins Road at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. But before they even arrived, they found out the person had a felony parole absconder warrant out of Pettis County.

After arriving at the residence and speaking with the complainant, officers worked out that the person was not trespassing. Although they made several attempts, officers were unable to make contact with the suspect.

Based on the information officers gathered about the suspect, including that he may be armed, had made suicidal statements and had an outstanding felony warrant for parole absconding, the decision was made around 10:50 p.m. to call in the S.W.A.T. and C.N.T. teams.

After surrounding the house and notifying neighboring houses, negotiators tried for several hours using various methods, but were unable to make contact with the suspect.

After receiving conflicting information about the suspect and the overall circumstances, commanding officers on the scene made the decision to withdraw all personnel. It was determined that the suspect didn't make any threats, no one was in immediate danger and the need to apprehend the suspect did not outweigh the safety risk to officers if an entry was made.

All officers cleared the scene at 3:40 a.m.

S.W.A.T and police crews surrounded a house in the 3700block of Rollins Road early Wednesday morning in Columbia.

A woman at the scene said the man inside the house was her son and that he was wanted for parole violation.

P
olice negotiators delivered a phone at the door of the residence and told the man to use it to talk to them or come with his hands up.

After a standoff, the officers left the scene.

The mother, who got to the scene after authorities did, tells us her son wasn't inside the home when she got there.
