Memorial Day has a whole new meaning for a Jefferson City family.

Chris and Shanon Johnson hadn't seen their kids for ten months.

They've been deployed with the Army in the Middle East.

KRCG's Daniel Winn was at the Columbia Regional Airport for their homecoming.

As the plane rolled up to the terminal Monday evening you could see the anticipation on their faces.

"I'm really excited to see them", said daughter Summer.

Their three kids along with dozens of family and friends waited for the Johnson's to walk into the airport.

They spent more than 20 hours on a plane traveling from Qatar to see their family for the first time in ten months.

They have just two weeks at home and they say they plan to make the most of every minute.

"It is very hard to be away, you're not there to say goodnight, or good morning when you wake up. You can talk to them every day but it's not the same", Shanon told us.

Chris said, "You think about what's going on back home, it's rough but you just do your job and push on".

Push on, knowing there's a family waiting for them when they come home for good in August.

During their two weeks at home the family plans to attend a Cardinal's game in St. Louis.
