The Cole County drug court celebrated another successful graduation ceremony Wednesday evening.

Administrators said that the program has been going strong since 1999, and it's often a much more effective option for addicts than jail.

"We did a study for 5 years. for all our graduates from the drug court program, only five percent had gone back to the department of corrections. we looked at the same numbers for the people that the the 120 day program during that period of time, 78 percent returned to the department of corrections. so i guess we got a 95 percent success rate," said Judge Patricia Joyce of the Cole County Drug Courts, who has been overseeing the program since its inception.

Wednesday there were five total graduates of the program. Before the graduation ceremony, there were several people in court that were currently going through it.

Besides helping former addicts sober up, Judge Joyce says the program also aims to help them find new jobs.
