Man arrested nearly two months after burglary

Columbia Police Department detectives and street crime units, ATF officials and the Boone County Sheriffs Department went to an address in the 5300 block of Santa Anna Drive to try and locate Dwayne L. Porter, a wanted person, on Thursday, May 3. Porter had a federal warrant and several outstanding warrants in Boone County.

Several witnesses reported seeing Porter running in the area eluding police. The K-9 unit tracked Porter down a gravel drive on the south side of WW. After an approximately hour-long track with the K-9, Porter was located near Victoria and Sonora streets. He was taken into custody at 4:56 p.m.

Porter was arrested for resisting or interfering with an arrest felony, Felony State warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Forgery, Misdemeanor State Warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of assault and Misdemeanor State Warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of obstruct police. Porter was also arrested for Burglary in the second degree and forgery from a March 6 case.

The case in question occurred on March 6, when officers were dispatched to a burglary at 1100 West Worley Street. The female victim reported her residence had been broken into between 12:30 p.m. on March 5 and 12:30 p.m. on March 6. The rear door of the residence had been forced open. The victim was missing several credit cards and checks. On March 13, the suspect, Porter, cashed the victim's checks at the Landmark Bank. On Thursday, May 3, Porter admitted his involvement in the forgery.
