Do you want to lose some weight?
Here’s a way to do with a little help from your friends.
Mizzou Head Coaches Gary Pinkel and Frank Haith welcomed the first players at the first official weigh-in for the Columbia Slimdown Challenge. Della Streaty-Wilhoit said Pinkel and Haith are a big influence in the challenge, not only for her, but for the entire community.
Streaty-Wilhoit said, “I’m going to try to lose about twenty pounds. It is really for health reasons. It’s very good for us to exercise. This is going to motivate me to exercise a little more. I’m the captain of a team. I think I’m going to enjoy this very much.”
Teams of four to six friends, family or coworkers are competing to lose the highest percent of weight-loss and win great prizes. Pinkel and Haith gave participants some advice on how to slim down.
Haith said, “I don’t drink sodas. All that I drink is water. There are periods of time that I don’t eat red meat. I like red meat. Those are the two things that I try to stay away from.”
Pinkel said, “First of all, it’s consistency with exercise. There are all different types of exercise. Force yourself to get up and do something. Go walk, jog, or ride bikes. Get out and get your heart elevated.”
The Columbia Slimdown Challenge is a free 12-week weight loss challenge that lasts from May until August.
You have until next Monday to weigh-in on the challenge. You could win tickets to the first Mizzou home football game or free Subway sandwiches for a year.
