Thief runs off with money from bank

COLUMBIA, MO -- Update: Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4:43 p.m.:

Officials at Columbia Public Schools confirmed Grant Elementary and Douglass High School went on a brief lockdown because of the bank robbery.

The lockdown lasted about 15-20 minutes. The outside doors were locked during the lockdown.

Columbia police are on the lookout for a bank robber.

Witnesses said a man entered Landmark Bank on North Garth just before 10 a.m. He handed the teller a note demanding money. The robber implied he had a weapon, but never showed one.

The thief ran away from the bank with money. No one was hurt.

Here’s the description witnesses gave:

-White male
-About 5’9 to 5’10
-160 to 170 pounds
-Last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt with glasses
