A Distracted Driving Summit kicks off Thursday at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, MoDOT, and Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety are sponsoring the summit.

It starts at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

The summit is a gathering of law enforcement officers, engineers, educators, professionals, and injury prevention groups.

The group will work to create an educational program for all ages about the dangers of distracted driving.

Hundreds of Missourians die every year in traffic crashes, because they weren't paying attention behind the wheel.
