Nine post offices in rural Mid-Missouri were on the list to possibly be closed to save money.

Now the US Postal Service says it will keep them open until at least May 15th, 2012.

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill is on the committee that oversees the postal service.

She says the delay will give the agency time to make more cost cutting moves like shortening hours or re-locating post offices.

Earlier this year the post office said facilities in these communities were at risk of closing: Arrow Rock, Clarksburg, Syracuse, Jacksonville, Olean, Portland, Steedman, Tebbetts and Wooldridge.
