The head of the Missouri Department of Transportation says they'll propose turning Interstate 70 into a toll road.

The idea has been bounced around for years. But MoDOT director Kevin Keith said Wednesday his department is preparing to propose it to the legislature.

MoDOT began a cost-cutting campaign earlier this year aimed at saving more than $500 million by 2015, as the agency's budget for major road projects dwindles.

Revenue from the tolls on I-70 would be spent on improving the interstate.
