A former Columbia police officer is the subject of 2 more internal investigations.

Rob Sanders was fired last month after he was caught on tape in August pushing an inmate into the wall of a concrete holding cell.

The 2 new investigations involving Sanders stem from another holding cell video and a video posted on the internet.

The new surveillance video shows Sanders grabbing the throat of Dominique Roland, 17, and pushing him to the floor on July 17.  Sanders tore Roland’s T-shirt and dragged him across the floor before handcuffing him.  Roland did not file a complaint.  Police Internal Affairs are still investigating.  The second investigation of Sanders comes from a video by a group called Citizens for Justice.  The video shows how Sanders admits he has no probable cause for pulling over a motorist.

Sanders: “I don’t have to have probable cause.”

Motorist:  “Are you conducting a traffic stop?”

Sanders:  “No, I’m not.”

Motorist:  “So, you’re just asking for identification.”

Sanders looking in back seat:  “Yes.  Do you have any sir?”

Passenger:  “Yes, I do.”

Sanders:  “Can I see it, please?  Is this your car sir?”

Passenger:  “No, it’s my mother’s car.”

Sanders:  “O.K.  Alright.”

The initial investigation of Sanders came from a surveillance video of Sanders pushing inmate Ken Baker.  Sanders lost his job after Baker spent 4 days in a hospital with a fractured vertebrae and wounds to the back of his head.

Sanders is not commenting on any of the 3 investigations.  Sanders is appealing his termination suit against the Columbia Police Department.

Earlier this month, Sanders asked to purchase a dog he handled for the department’s K-9 unit.

The Columbia City Council declined Sanders’ request.

A former Columbia police officer is the subject of at least one additional internal investigation.

Columbia Police Officer Rob Sanders was fired on Sept. 21 after he was caught on tape in August pushing an inmate in a holding cell. 

A new video, released Monday morning, showed Sanders using force again, this time against 17-year-old Dominique Roland in July.

Roland did not file a complaint against Sanders for the incident. In the August incident, Ken Baker, the man in the video that caused Sanders to lose his job, spent four days in a hospital with a fractured vertebrae and wounds to the back of his head.

Baker's attorney said it was possible a lawsuit could be filed in that incident. Sanders has vowed to fight the dismissal and says the entire firing was a PR stunt by Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton. Sanders said he was cleared by an initial internal investigation into the incident, to which Burton said Sanders was not.

Sanders was a K-9 handler for the Columbia Police Department. Earlier this month, Sanders asked to purchase the dog he handled for the department. Columbia's risk management department told Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton that liabilities were too high for Sanders to purchase the dog.

Last week, the Columbia City Council sided with that decision and declined Sanders request for the purchase.

Because the city does not have another officer to take on handling duties for the dog -- Fano -- the german shepherd was expected to be sent back to the training academy.
