PIERPONT, MO. -- Updated October 18th at 5:30 pm.:

Fire destroyed part of a home near Pierpont on Tuesday shortly before 3 p.m.

Boone County Firefighters responded to a 911 call that told them a house was on fire at 7240 South Highway 163.

Flames shot through the roof and the structure was full of smoke.

No one was injured and all of the pets were saved.

Fire investigators are still working on an official cause of the fire.

They do know it started near a fireplace.

Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said, “We have heavy damage in the living room portion where the fireplace was.  It was a vaulted ceiling.  We have a lot of roof damage there.  We pulled all of the drywall from that living room area.”

24 firefighters and 8 fire trucks were on the scene.

Firefighters arrived at the fire in less than 6 minutes.

Boone County Firefighters battled a blaze Tuesday afternoon in the small community of Pierpont.

The fire happened just south of Columbia near the Rock Bridge State Park.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire just before 3 p.m. Tuesday. It happened in the 7200 block of Highway 163 South.

Crews found flames shooting from the home and quickly called for back-up and additional tankers. No one was injured in the fire.
