A jury has found Derrick Washington guilty of deviate sexual assault. He could spend anywhere from one day to seven years in prison for the crime.

Update: Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5:23 p.m.:

A jury is deliberating at this hour in the felony sexual assault trial of a former Mizzou football player.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys gave their closing arguments in the case against Derrick Washington.

A former roommate of Washington’s accuser took the stand and backed the story of Washington’s sexual attack in June of last year.

Lauren Gavin testified that Washington got in her roommate’s bed in the middle of the night and fondled her without her permission.

Gavin said, “I feel like when you go through something like this you’re just trying to get by day by day.  You have people who are doubting you and calling you a liar and a whore and you know you made bad decisions.”

Update: Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 12:50 p.m.:

Sgt. April Colvin, of the MU Police Department, took the stand early Wednesday afternoon.

Colvin interviewed Washington's accuser at the hospital. Colvin said the woman told her the assault happened around 3 a.m.

The trial against former Mizzou running back Derrick Washington entered day two on Wednesday.

Late Tuesday night, prosecutors called Washington's accuser to the stand.

Wednesday began with an investigator taking the stand in the case. Then, prosecutor's called Lauren Gavin to the stand.

Gavin is the roommate of Washington's accuser. She admitted to having consensual sex with Washington and was described as a friend with benefits.

She testified Wednesday in Boone County Circuit Court that Washington entered the woman's bedroom while she slept and fondled her without permission. Gavin had a consensual sexual relationship with Washington, whom she invited to their apartment in June 2010.

The trial went into recess shortly after 11 a.m. and was expected to resume at noon.
