Governor Jay Nixon has sent a letter to leaders in the legislature outlining his desire to raise salaries for state workers in next years budget.

State workers last got a pay hike in 2009 when they received a three-percent cost-of-living increase.

Nixon proposed a pay increase in 2010.

But the Democrat's plan was not approved by the Republican-led legislature.

Budget Director Linda Luebbering says Nixon wants to commit $26-million dollars for a two-percent increase, beginning next July.

If a state worker makes $30,000, it means a $600 raise.
