BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Updated: August 11, 2011 at 4:23 pm:

A young couple faces felony drug charges after authorities busted their meth lab in the Indian Hills Subdivision, northeast of Columbia.

Blake Robbins, 24, and Christine Poynter, 30, also face charges of child endangerment after exposing their 4-year-old son to dangerous chemicals.

Authorities arrested Robbins and Poynter in their duplex on Kelsey Drive.  Investigators found methhamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, chemicals, and other meth lab components both inside and outside of their home.

The couple’s 4-year-old son was also in the home where authorities found an uncapped syringe and a drinking glass containing acid.  Stephen Stalder’s 3-year-old stepson Landon was a playmate with the 4-year-old next door.

Stalder said, “Just realizing that they had that around the children is frustrating enough as it is.  From what I’ve read in the papers, they found paraphernalia within the reach of the child.  That’s just wrong in every matter.”

Both Robbins and Poynter had arrest warrants for previous drug charges.  Investigators didn’t know about their meth lab until they entered the home.

Boone County Sheriff’s Detective Tom O’Sullivan said, “Sometimes that’s what happens in law enforcement.  You wind up getting more than you bargained for.  We were primarily just looking for these two individuals to address the outstanding warrants.  When we got there, we found a whole lot more.”

Authorities said the 4-year-old boy is safe with his grandmother.  Investigators said there are no more suspects in this case.

Robbins had outstanding arrest warrants from Newton, McDonald and Jasper counties.

Poynter had an arrest warrant out of Newton County.

Both suspects remain in the Boone County Jail.

Original Story:

Two people were arrested Wednesday night after the materials used to make meth were found in their home, along with a four-year-old child.

The Columbia Street Crimes Unit and the Boone County Sheriff's Department Proactive Saturation Unit arrested Columbia residents 24-year-old Blake Robbins and 30-year-old Christine Poynter

At their residence in the 5400 block of Kelsey Drive, authorities found an active methamphetamine lab.

Meth, drug paraphernalia, chemicals, and other components of the lab were located both inside and outside of the residence.

A four-year-old child was also in the home. Officers say an uncapped syringe and a drinking glass containing acid were just two of the dangers to the child.

Robbins and Poynter were arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.
