Bank in Columbia victim of suspected armed robbery

Columbia Police are investigating a bank robbery on Wednesday.

The armed robbery happened at the Martinsburg Bank on South Providence around 3:50 p.m. The bank is at the corner of Providence and Nifong.

Police said the suspect told a teller that he had a gun, but did not show it. There were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery.

Witnesses told police the suspect demanded money from a teller and then, after getting the unknown amount of money, he fled the bank on foot.

No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect is described as a young white male with a thin build and of average height. He was last seen wearinga  white hat, blue shirt and blue jeans. If anyone has any information about the crime they are asked to call Columbia Police or CrimeStoppers at 875-TIPS.
