Investigators in Montgomery County are investigating a murder after the body of a 56-year-old black man was found in the Danville Quarry.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, workers arriving at work early Friday morning found the man's body in the parking lot.

Sheriff Bob Davis said an officer arrived on scene and found a 56-year-old Kansas City man who had died of a gunshot wound. County Coroner David Colbert pronounced the man dead at 7 a.m.

Sheriff Davis said the man had no known ties to Montgomery County. Davis contacted the Missouri Highway Patrol Violent Crime Unit and they took over the investigation.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
