Two Maries County suspects are in jail arrested on drug related offenses.

The Belle Police Chief Michael Dixon Jr. stopped a car near Belle City Park just after noon Thursday.

Chief Dixon said an occupant threw an object out the window. When the chief was examining the object he was exposed to anhydrous ammonia vapors and had to be taken to a hospital.

Deputies also found a bag containing numerous pseudoephedrine tablets. Both pseudoephedrine and anhydrous ammonia are key ingredients used to make meth.

Deputies arrested Terri Daniels of Bland and Douglas Gehlert of Belle. Gehlert was also recently indicted on federal meth charges.

Chief Dixon is in stable condition, but the extent of the damage to his respiratory system is unknown.
