COLUMBIA, MO. -- If have an old cell phone, there’s a way to put it to good use.

You can donate your used wireless device to an organization called Cell Phones for Soldiers.

Volunteers with the non-profit organization collect and recycle old cell phones.

They buy prepaid phone cards for military families with the proceeds from the recycling.

You can drop off your unwanted cell phones and accessories at the Winter-Dent and Company offices in Jefferson City at 101 East McCarty Street and in Columbia at 1205 West Broadway.

Winter-Dent & Company Spokeswoman Connie McClellan said, “They don’t have to be functioning cell phones.  They can be non-working cell phones.  We do strongly recommend that if it is a functioning cell phone, then you should erase the information on there.”

You can sign up a military family for the cell phones for soldiers program by clicking on the link below.
