Thousands compete at Missouri Leadership and Skills Conference

LINN, MO. -- Linn State Technical College hosted it's 45th annual Missouri Leadership and Skills Conference Friday.


Over 70 Missouri high schools and six community colleges participated in the three day long event.


Winners from the 2011 conference will represent Missouri at the 47th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City this summer.


"Besides the prizes, there's lost of scholarships offered here and it's a chance for the students to show off their skills, SkillsUSA Missouri state director Paul Light said. “Once they get to Kansas City they'll be talking to industry people that could be employers for these students. The students will show them what they've got when they compete there. the students will be competing against the top students in the united states in high school and post secondary."


Over 2,000 students and teachers participate in over 120 leadership, skill and written contests preparing students for the national SkillsUSA contests each year.


SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service operations.
