Kansas City Police arrest suspect in March 12th shooting death.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Update: Friday, March 25 at 6:20 p.m.:

Police have arrested a second suspect in the shooting death of Cortez Bellamy.

Cole County confirmed with KRCG that Rondric Hunt is in the jail in connection with the Jefferson City homicide.

Hunt, 24, is charged with shooting at a vehicle/person.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Hunt was wanted for knowingly shooting a firearm at a Chevy Suburban. As a result, Bellamy was killed.

Hunt was scheduled to appear in a Cole County courtroom Friday morning for a criminal setting. He did not show up to address his 1st degree property damage charge, so police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Police in the St. Louis area took him into custody sometime Friday. Bond has not been set.

Prosecutors have charged a Jefferson City man with unlawful use of a weapon for his involvement in a fatal shooting.

Terrell Lamar Edwards, 28, was arrested Wednesday in Kansas City and brought back to Jefferson City where he faces charges in the shooting death of Cortez Bellamy, 24.

Edwards is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a lesser charge than police had asked for. Jefferson City Police had sought for Edwards to be charged with 2nd degree murder. Click

Police believe Edwards had been hiding out in Kansas City ever since the
shooting on March 12th.

Edwards and Bellamy were part of a confrontation March 12 involving several people after a fight with a woman at Rumors Nightclub on Madison Street, according to the probable cause statement.

"We do know there was a disturbance between the parties prior to the shooting and we're certain that's what led up to it," said Capt. Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police Department. "The extent of the relationship prior to I don't think we have a lot on that yet, or we really don't want to go into that quite yet."

Police said the fight continued a short time later at the College Complex on Industrial Drive where Edwards' friends fought with Bellamy.

After the fight, police say Edwards and his friends followed the car Bellamy was riding in down Missouri Blvd.

Around 4 a.m., the cars reached the intersection of Broadway and Dunklin where the probable cause tells what happened next: "[Bellamy's] vehicle was slowing or stopping because of a red light when [Bellamy] opened his door, leaned out, and was struck in the head by a bullet."

Bellamy's friends rushed him to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City for treatment. Bellamy died later that day after being transferred to University Hospital in Columbia.

Bellamy and his friends weren't armed, according to the probable cause statement.

A police spokesman says more charges are possible against Edwards and his friends.
