COLUMBIA, MO -- Update: Wednesday, March 23 at 12:55 p.m.:

CBS has posted a preview of this weekend's episode. It's titled "The Lost Night."

You can watch the video preview here.

Original Story:

Columbia once again will be in the national spotlight on this weekend’s 48 Hours Mystery.

The CBS show will feature Bill Ferguson’s fight to prove his son’s innocence. Ryan Ferguson was 21 years old when he was convicted and sentenced to 40 years in prison for the death of Kent Heitholt.

Heitholt, who was the sports editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune, was found dead in the newspaper’s parking lot in 2001.

The crime went unsolved for 2 years. Then the Tribune published an anniversary article about the crime in November 2003.

That’s when Chuck Erickson came out saying his dreams triggered memories of how he and Ferguson killed Heitholt.

Erickson has since taken back that testimony and said he alone killed the sports editor.

That prompted, Ferguson’s father, Bill, to file a Writ of Habeas Corpus. The petition claims Ryan is innocent, and could lead to his son’s conviction getting overturned.

Bill’s fight to free his son is the focus of the 48 Hours Mystery episode.

You can watch it on KRCG Saturday night at 9 p.m. local time.

This is the 2nd time 48 Hours has featured the case. The first episode aired February 18, 2006.

You can watch the full episode from the first time 48 Hours came to Columbia here.
