The company that makes Skippy peanut butter is recalling two of its spreads that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall includes: Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread.

No illnesses have been linked to the recall.

Unilever United States Inc. initiated the recall after routine sampling revealed that the finished peanut butter products may contain the bacteria.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now required food makers to alert government officials of potentially contaminated products within 24 hours, to read about the new rule click HERE.

Unilever did not specify how many jars have been recalled. They are packaged in 16.3 oz. plastic jars with used-by dates of May 16-21, 2012.

The recalled jars were distributed to retail outlets in Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, the company said.

The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDS. No other Skippy products are affected by this recall.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems.

The affected product, which is packaged in 16.3 oz plastic jars, is as follows:
