JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- MoDOT now says the cost to clean up this month's blizzard was $7.7 million. The figure includes labor, equipment, and materials.
The department updated its estimate, but said it's still a rough number.
MoDOT says more than 2,500 employees and 1,600 pieces of equipment were used to clear the state's 33,000-mile highway system.
Workers put in more than 90,000 hours and used at least 30,000 tons of salt and other materials to treat roads and bridges.
Snowplow trucks logged 1.1 million miles.
Despite using so much salt and running the equipment for thousands of miles, MoDOT says it still has plenty of supplies on hand for the rest of winter, and its equipment is in good shape.
MoDOT didn't just work on state highways. Governor Nixon requested the state agency help counties clear their roads. MoDOT says it did just that and helped open 1,200 miles of county roadways in 16 counties.
