Mother Nature set the schedule back a week, but the food was no worse for it.

The Jefferson City Host Lions Club Wednesday cooked 1,400 pounds of ham and beans, along with cornbread and kraut, to feed more than 2,000 people at the 55th Annual Ham-and-Bean dinner at the Selinger Center.

"Luckily, most of the things we have, they could keep very well for a week.  Local grocery stores were gracious enough to store 'em for us,” Event Chairman Dennis Licklider said. ”So we're in good shape.”

The Lions club is a major sponsor of eyesight care for indigent people.

Licklider said the money raised through the $8 dinner tickets will fund that and other service projects.
